Title: E-LEARNING SOLUTION HELPS ACCOUNTANTS COMPLY
Date:   25 September 2002
The leading provider of e-learning compliance, Wide Learning, has launched two new courses that have been specifically created for Accountancy firms. One deals with money laundering prevention and the other with the Data Protection Act 1998, and both are designed to help accountancy firms meet their legal requirements on these key issues. The money laundering course is a finalist in the 2002 WOLCE generic product of the year awards.

Money Laundering Prevention For Accountants provides practical advice on how to recognise and report suspicious activity. Data Protection For Accountants has been developed to cover the essentials of best practice, highlighting the application of data handling rules. Implementation of these courses enables firms to cost-effectively comply with the requirement that they provide staff with appropriate training on each issue.

The purpose of the programme is to outline the responsibilities that members of accountancy firms have in identifying and preventing money laundering activities, and the requirement to protect personal information under current data protection legislation. . Each course is designed to be customised to the specific needs of individual firms. This can include interviews with key staff, interactive exercises and pointers to a firm’s own compliance resources.

Both courses are designed to help firms maintain and monitor ongoing compliance awareness, and are essential for meeting the needs of new employees as part of an induction programme. Progress can be benchmarked as learner records are tracked, recorded and reported.

Designed to offer maximum flexibility the courses can be delivered via the Internet, a firm’s intranet, or on CD-ROM.

Says Alan Calder, CEO of Wide Learning:

“Firms need to be diligent on these issues ensuring that their employees understand what the appropriate checks are on knowing their customers. This doesn’t seem apparent; the national criminal intelligence service said recently that it is frustrated with the lack of checks that accountancy firms are making.”
