| E-learning solutions provider, Wide Learning, has launched a suite of four courses designed to help organisations fulfil legal obligations and comply with anti-discrimination legislation. The courses are targeted at companies seeking to promote a diverse workplace and minimise their risk of discrimination litigation. The programme has been developed for maximum flexibility and can be delivered on a company's intranet, the Internet or by CD-ROM.
Says Alan Calder, CEO, Wide Learning:
"The steep rise in awards for discrimination continues, with record bonuses and payouts to discrimination victims reaching a record GBP of £3.5 million in 2000. This figure continues to rise sharply. In fact, the damage to corporate reputation and the costs in terms of time and resources involved in defending these cases push this figure much higher. This programme not only helps organisations comply with anti discrimination legislation, but tests and records competency, thus demonstrating a company’s commitment to meeting there regulations.”
Adds Sue Johnstone, Editor of Equal Opportunities Review and Employment Tribunal panel member:
"I believe this type of firm-wide diversity training is invaluable. It demonstrates a clear commitment to diversity policy, crucial to maintaining a productive workplace, and of course looked upon very positively by employment tribunals when assessing discrimination cases"
Preventing Discrimination has been designed to instruct employees in organisations of all sizes to identify and prevent race and/or sex discrimination at work. The aim is to promote equal opportunities in the workplace by describing the terms of UK anti-discrimination legislation and explaining official Codes of Practice.
Diversity Training for Managers, has been developed to help supervisory and management staff identify and prevent race and/or sex discrimination at work. The course provides management with an essential set of skills for monitoring opportunities within their organisations. It explains how to distinguish between unlawful and lawful discrimination, monitor the effectiveness of an equal opportunities policy and apply non-discriminatory procedures for recruitment, promotion, training, pay, redundancy and grievances.
Wide Learning teamed up with Youreable.com to provide a further two training programmes, which focus on disability awareness. These emphasise the strategic benefits of welcoming disabled people, demonstrate ways of improving services and management practices, and explain how to avoid unlawful discrimination.
Welcoming Disabled Customers invites learners to rearrange a virtual shop layout, discuss issues with an animated tutor and consider their legal obligations in a range of role play scenarios. The course delivers a set of skills essential to improving customer service and fulfilling legal obligations through a thorough understanding of the key regulations.
In Disability Awareness at Work, learners can interact with a simulated job interview, adjust a virtual office building for disabled colleagues and apply best practice employment measures to real-life examples.
